🧮 Scoring Details

• Each hand on the 2026 National Mah Jongg League Card has a point value.
  → This value serves as the base score for a winning hand.

➕ Bonus Points

• +10 points if you pick your own Mah Jongg tile.
• +20 points if you declare Mah Jongg with no jokers in your hand.
  ⚠️ Exception: No bonus applies to hands in the Singles & Pairs group.
• +10 points to each player for a Wall Game.
  ⚠️ Players with a dead hand do not receive these points.

➖ Penalties

• -5 points if you discard the winning tile to a player with 0 exposures.
• -10 points if you discard the winning tile to a player with 1 exposure.
• -20 points if you discard the winning tile to a player with 2 or more exposures.

⚠️ Incorrect Mah Jongg Calls

• If Mah Jongg is called in error and all three other players expose their hands:
  → All players receive 0 points.
• If one player does not expose their hand:
  → That player receives +10 points, all others receive 0 points.
• If Mah Jongg is called in error and two or more hands remain unexposed:
  → The game continues as normal

📢 Policy on Substitutes

We recognize our league players don’t want to miss a thing!  We also recognize that scheduling conflicts occur and last minute schedule changes are sometimes beyond our control.  While unforeseen conflicts may arise, players are expected to take full responsibility for securing a substitute when they are unable to attend.

• If a player uses a substitute, the substitute’s score will not count toward the player’s league score. Instead, the player will receive their current season average as their score for that week. For example, if the player has a substitute for week 4, and their average score for weeks 1-3 is 50 points, the player’s score for week 4 will be 50 points.  If a player uses a substitute more than once during the season, a 5-point penalty will be applied to that week’s average score for each additional occurrence.
  
  
• If a player is unable to find a substitute, FdM may attempt to do so as a courtesy; however, this is not guaranteed. If no substitute is secured, the absent player will receive a score of 0 for that week. The remaining players at the table will continue with a three-player game without the Charleston, in accordance with NMJL rules.
  
  
• If multiple players are absent in a given week, FdM reserves the right to reassign tables at its discretion in order to maintain four-player games whenever possible.
